===Dexterity (Dex)===&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Dexterity measures hand-eye coordination, agility, reflexes, and balance. This ability is the most important one for [[SRD:Rogue|rogues]], but it’s also high on the list for characters who typically wear [[SRD:Armor|light or medium armor]] ([[SRD:Ranger|rangers]] and [[SRD:Barbarian|barbarians]]) or no armor at all ([[SRD:Monk|monks]], [[SRD:Wizard|wizards]], and [[SRD:Sorcerer|sorcerers]]), and for anyone who wants to be a skilled archer.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
You apply your character’s Dexterity modifier to:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
* [[SRD:Attack Roll|Ranged attack rolls]], including those for attacks made with [[SRD:Weapons|bows, crossbows, throwing axes, and other ranged weapons]].&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
* [[SRD:Armor Class|Armor Class (AC)]], provided that the character can react to the attack.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
* [[SRD:Reflex Save|Reflex saving throws]], for avoiding [[SRD:Fireball|fireballs]] and other attacks that you can escape by moving quickly.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
* [[SRD:Balance Skill|Balance]], [[SRD:Escape Artist Skill|Escape Artist]], [[SRD:Hide Skill|Hide]], [[SRD:Move Silently Skill|Move Silently]], [[SRD:Open Lock Skill|Open Lock]], [[SRD:Ride Skill|Ride]], [[SRD:Sleight of Hand Skill|Sleight of Hand]], [[SRD:Tumble Skill|Tumble]], and [[SRD:Use Rope Skill|Use Rope]] checks. These are the skills that have Dexterity as their [[SRD:Key Ability|key ability]].&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Any [[SRD:Creature|creature]] that can move has at least 1 point of Dexterity. A [[SRD:Creature|creature]] with no Dexterity score can’t move. If it can perform [[SRD:Actions|actions]] (such as casting [[SRD:Spells|spells]]), it applies its [[SRD:Intelligence|Intelligence]] modifier to [[SRD:Initiative|initiative]] checks instead of a Dexterity modifier. The creature automatically fails [[SRD:Saving Throw|Reflex saves]] and [[SRD:Dexterity Check|Dexterity checks]].&lt;br /&gt;
