Arpa Universalis Playtest:

Phil's turn

Turn Order and Coins left: 1) Adam (5) 2) Phil (11) 3) Sean (12) 4) EvilCat (12)

Scene One: Look before you Leap: Joanna Edwards (Phil) - accelerated fall - flick-knife - expert parachutist

First man (Cat) - skydiving experience - has something 003 wants - Astra A-80 pistol (half round) - bad guy

Second man (Sean) - half into his chute

Plane (Adam) - On autopilot & circling

Location - the height is right for a parachuted descent


Story Elements:

  • 'Bond-esque' espionage
  • European setting
  • 1980s
  • Villains are Spanish
  • A member of the British Royal family is under threat
  • The assassination attempt by P.A.C.E. is to happen in only 24 hours!
  • PACE telegraphed its actions with a manifesto published in the Daily Mail
  • There is a bomb in a baby carriage
  • Technology is clever but realistic. Mid-to-low strength gadgets.
  • MI6's resources are currently invested in other important operations, and 003's support is limited.

Components: Joanna Edwards (003) [6] - a stunning blond - could have been an Olympic Gymnast as a teenager - expert in Aikido - once jumped out of a burning aeroplane with Peter Gosling - expert parachutist - flick knife

Sergeant Peter Gosling, Royal Regiment of Fusiliers [6] - stationed at Buckingham Palace as part of the current guard - bats for the other side, but is still in-the-closet. - once jumped out of a burning aeroplane with Joanna Edwards - brother of Michael Gosling, a PACE oeprative

Michael Gosling, a PACE operative [3] - brother of Peter Gosling, Sergeant of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers

P.A.C.E, a Spanish criminal organisation [4] - goal is to further the cause of the Basque separatist movement by assassinating a British royal - have trouble with maintaining discipline. Empassioned operatives will often act on their own agendas or of their own accord

Prince Reginald, son of the Duke of Kent [2]

Thomas (Tom) Larkin, diamond trader [3] - just returned from South Africa

Domingo Alvarez, a reporter at the Daily Mail [2]

Rules Gimmicks:

  • No interrupts in mid-narration
  • If a player doesn't act on his turn for a day, the next player can take the turn for free, or any other player can take it for 1 coin
  • The targeted royal is never to be explicitly identified
  • Anyone can attach a good and appropriate picture to a component for 1 coin, like a trait. It acts as a proper name, aiding a character in any complication (since a portrait signifies character's importance to the story)
